Today the New Zealand Herald headlines “NZ’s backing of UN resolution condemning Israel’s Palestine settlements ’embarrassing'”. The current NZ Government is determined to fully restore the friendly relations with Israel after the former Minister of Foreign Affairs had endorsed UNSC Res 2334 in December 2016, which led to a diplomatic freeze between New Zealand and Israel, and damaged the reputation of New Zealand as an honest broker of peace. The NZ Herald refers to The Hague Statement of jurists where it says “The report makes clear that UNSC Resolution 2334 was a politicisation of United Nations processes to attack the Jewish State”. The report, covering the conclusions of The Hague Seminar, was published by thinc. on 31 October 2017.
